The Hastie Stable's Tim Haddow and his family have enjoyed a very different kind of summer break - helping to build a classroom at a primary school in Uganda. The two-week trip was made through the charity Mission Direct (https://missiondirect.org/), and Tim says it was a privilege to have taken part.
"We've had a fantastic experience as a family. Our main project was assisting with the build of a classroom at a primary school which will enable the Primary 4 class, currently over 200 children in a single classroom, to be sub-divided," he added.
"We have mixed cement, laid bricks, fabricated reinforcing steelwork, run craft activities, organised sports days, served food, taught lessons in class and washed children's hair. I also had the opportunity to visit the local prison, meet some of the prisoners and take part in a prison church service - a quite extraordinary experience in every possible way."
"We feel really privileged to have had this opportunity to meet and work alongside so many ordinary Ugandan teachers, community workers and Church members who were doing such amazing work, despite their own circumstances being so much harder than our own."
