Bruce Erroch called to the Bar in 1998 and undertakes a broad range of civil and criminal litigation.  Much of his work is in the fields of reparation, professional and clinical negligence, fatal accident enquiries, mental health and professional regulation.  He has been instructed in cases at all levels, including the Court of Criminal Appeal, the High Court of Justiciary and the Outer and Inner Houses of the Court of Session.  He has appeared in the Sheriff Appeal Court and Sheriff Courts throughout the country, as well as before Courts Martial and various statutory and disciplinary tribunals.

He served as an Advocate Depute from 2009 to 2013; and as Senior Advocate Depute from 2013 until 2017, prosecuting numerous high profile and complex cases and representing the Crown in the Court of Criminal Appeal.  He was described by the Lord Advocate as having been “an outstanding Advocate Depute.”  In addition to maintaining a civil and criminal practice, he sits as a Convener of the Mental Health Tribunal and is a Legal Assessor to the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

He is widely regarded as being extremely approachable and is a polished and experienced court performer.  He has extensive experience of both leading and cross-examining witnesses from all backgrounds, from child and vulnerable witnesses through to expert witnesses dealing with complex factual matters.
