John’s primary interest is in Family Law. He regularly appears in both the Sheriff Courts and the Court of Session and has acted in adoption hearings, child protection and child abduction hearings, cohabitation actions (both pre- and post-dating the Family (Scotland) Act 2006) as well as actions dealing with financial provision on divorce.

Since calling to the bar John has gained experience in the Criminal Courts for both the defence and prosecution. John was instructed by the Crown as Junior Counsel in the Stockline Plastics Explosion Prosecution where he gained a good understanding of the workings of the Health and Safety Regulations.

Prior to training as a lawyer, John was a proprietor of a successful pharmacy business and prior to calling at the bar, John worked several years as an associate in the commercial and projects department of one of the world’s largest law firms.

John is approachable and thorough. He deals with sensitive issues in a calm and mature manner without introducing personal drama to already highly charged situation.
